From the east, take the Amsterdam exit (#27) off the Thruway
Take a right and follow Route 30 North for one mile.
Take a left at the second light after the bridge onto Route 5 West.
Follow Route 5 for three miles. Take a right onto Route 67.
Follow Route 67 for 5.5 miles. Shortly after passing FMCC, take a right onto the
small road by Ed's RC shop.
After one half mile you will see a faded white fence on your right. Follow the
driveway and park in the parking lot and walk to the range. If you go past the entrance to the
golf course you have gone too far.
Please keep your speed UNDER 5 mph when driving down the driveway. We do not want to kick up any dust, as there is a house and an engine repair shop next to the driveway.
Our field is private property, and ASTRE is allowed to use it only as long as certain rules are followed. The field is open to ASTRE members and guests only on the dates listed on our Events Calendar.
A note to potential new members: If Saturday is cancelled due to weather (rain, wind, alien invasion) we may try for Sunday, or hold until the next scheduled launch. An e-mail to the ASTRE Groups list will go out the night before the launch with status information, and the website will be updated as well. Your best bet is to check the website first before you trek out to the field.
Here's a satellite photo of the field:
The yellow line comes in from Route 67, Past Ed's RC shop, and down the driveway. We recommend that you first walk that last section of yellow line, before driving out onto the field.
The green area is where we usually set up the pads. This depends on wind conditions.
The red line is the land owners property line. This is where 99 percent of the rockets land. There are plenty of clearings past clumps of woods, more so to the southern corner of the field. Directly across the street is an 18 hole golf course, with few trees.
Winds usually come out of the West/South West and travel across to the far corner (furthest from the green area) of the field.
