ASTRE, the Albany- Schenectady- Troy Rocket Enthusiasts of New York, is Section 471 of the National Association of Rocketry (NAR).

ASTRE has been active in the Capital District, Mohawk Valley and surrounding areas since 1986. We have members from the entire region.

We welcome anyone with an interest in rocketry and space modeling to share in our activities. If you live in the Capital District, or near the Capital District, and enjoy building and flying rockets, then we invite you to join us. Our membership spans all ages. Families are most welcome. Membership in the NAR is not a requirement, and ASTRE is open to all. We operate and maintain a model rocket range in Johnstown, NY.

See you on the field!

The ASTRE Sport Launch scheduled for Saturday July 12 at our Guilderland is a go. The weather should be quite nice with winds from the south at about 6 to 7 mph. It will be a little on the warm side but hopefully not that bad.

ASTRE will be holding a sport launch on Saturday July 12 from 10 AM until 4 PM at ASTRE's Guilderland field on Depot Rd.. Check the ASTRE website for directions to the field. There will be FAA FAR 101 NOTAM notification so Large Model Rockets under those guidelines (and ASTRE field limits) are acceptable. Full G impulse and 3.3 pound maximum weight models (with motor) will be allowed at the discretion of the RSO based on safety, weather and field conditions.

Note that the field extends quite a ways beyond a house located in the upper section of the field as seen from the road. Depending on where the range head is set up, the range may not be visible from the road. Follow the driveway past the house if you don't see the range head from the entrance road.

Also, this field is still quite new to us. We have only flown on it once. The weeds could be quite high so dress accordingly. Shorts are not recommended and you would be wise to bring insect repellent.

Contact Chuck Weiss (cbweiss@frontiernet.net) if you have questions about the launch.

See you at the field.

Chuck Weiss
